Honduras update

Check out Laura Carlsen from the Center for International Policy live blogging about the OAS discussion of the Honduran coup at The Huffington Post. For example:

* Roberto Micheletti has been sworn into office as president by the military coup.
* OAS countries refuse to recognize him or to negotiate in any form with coup leaders.
* OAS countries issue calls for the immediate return and reinstatement of President Manuel Zelaya in his legitimate functions.

Secretary General Insulza reports that Cuban, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan ambassadors attempted to accompany Honduran Foreign Minister when she was forcibly abducted by military coup leaders, but were violently pushed away from the vehicle. They are not being held captive. As others discuss diplomatic actions--clearly needed and appropriate--these ambassadors provided a lesson in real solidarity, by putting their own lives on the line.

As far as I can tell, this coup has no support anywhere. I cannot imagine any government recognizing Micheletti.

On the contrary, most of the people in Honduras support the ousting of The Chalvez wannabe who wanted to illegally re-write the Honduran Constitution to install another Latin American Dictator who is supported by oppresive regimes as Cuba and Chalvez. I support the brave act to stand for freedom and democracy. I hope Chalvez will keep his butt out of Central America. Shame on Obama for not standing with Honduras. I know Ronald Reagan and George Bush would have. Viva Honduras!

This is a legal attempt to remove a president that is in violation of Honduran law.

Zelaya's actions of the past 5 months have been in blantant disregard for the Honduran Constituion, which he sought to rewrite, the Honduran Supreme Court, which he has undermined, the Honduran Congress, which he has tried to delegitimize,the Honduran Military, which he has tried to purge, his own party that has resisted Hug Chavez, and 72% of the Honduran public, that feel disenfranchised by Zelaya. This was not a coup. Zelaya was legally removed by the military at the request of the Honduran Congress and the Honduran Supreme Court that have the following two articles of the Honduran Constitution to do so;

.

Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform, as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years.

.

15 To indict the President

Why is Obama now meddling in the internal affairs of a soveriegn nation and why is he siding with Hugo Chavez?
