Wikileaks Venezuela

From the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, a great quote:

A plain-spoken nuclear physicist told
Econoff that those spreading rumors that Venezuela is helping
third countries (i.e. Iran) develop atomic bombs "are full of
(expletive)." He said Venezuela is currently unable to
provide such assistance particularly as the Chavez
administration "does not trust scientists."

Interestingly, this is rather like the long cable on Honduras, where diplomats contradict extravagant claims yet are mostly ignored.

Well, I think this explains why the US has been largely silent about a possible Venezuelan nuclear weapons program. Competence says nothing about desire, however. Chavez would love to treated as the center of attention the way Iran and North Korea are.
