Personal Over Diplomatic Relations in Mexico
I am quoted in this Business Insider article about the danger of using solely personal rather than diplomatic avenues for bilateral relations, in this case the U.S. and Mexico. I wrote a post on this topic a few weeks ago. Beyond the fact that Jared Kushner does not appear to be a very knowledgeable person, relying on individuals is tenuous. If one of these individuals leaves their position to whatever reason, you have a hole that the State Department is not in a position to fill.
I wonder how many other regional but even national bilateral relations are conducted like this these days?
