Brewer and immigration

I can't help but comment on Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's following statement:

I believe today, under the circumstances that we're facing, that the majority of the illegal trespassers that are coming into the state of Arizona are under the direction and control of organized drug cartels and they are bringing drugs in," Brewer said.

Her argument is ignorant, fact-free, and irresponsible.  There is no, and I mean no, evidence to support it.  We do know that as immigration has gone up, crime has gone down.  We also know that recent immigrants are less likely to commit crimes.  In sum, the opposite of what she claims.

This leads me to wonder, does she really believe it?  If so, it shows an alarming lack of interest in understanding immigration.  If not, it is potentially a) a political bone for her base; and b) a message to the Obama administration that it needs to help her politically with enforcement.  A letter she sent to Obama at least suggests the possibility of the second option:

I want to assure you that I am looking to develop a solution, not a standoff with you and the federal government.

Feigned ignorance is not good, but slightly better than the real thing.

Thanks for Good Editorial and Opinions on Immigration Mr Weeks

Jan Brewer on TV : "Mr President, Do your job" - When you think that she is going to regret so much imprudence and intemperance -

Imprudence, Intemperance, Rashness, Improvidence :

When you think that this lady is not going to commit more mistakes and that she is going to apologize, she attacks with more fury.

Disrespect for the President is disrespect for the Nation that elected him freely and democratically, with no oppression or subjugation, no coaction or brutal force. This is inexcusable in a Governor.

This Lady Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona, is inadvertently, unwillingly and unconsciously helping the movement for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Unknowingly, she is the best Advertising Agency for Comprehensive Immigration Reform ( CIR is something that she avowedly hates )

Because at some point the majority of Americans can change opinions, we have seen that many times in the past, for America and for the rest of the World. People are mobile, opinions are fleeting and inconstant, etc ... Trends are ephemeral : that is Human Nature.

And people dislike having their attention concentrated in a single subject - They want novelties, so they can desert their preferred politicians of the past.
