Venezuelan independence day
Am I the only one who detects a hint of snark in Hillary Clinton's message to Venezuela?
This year, the people of both our countries will be going to the polls to elect their political leaders. Holding free and fair elections is the best way to pay tribute to our founders, and reinforce the ideals of individual liberty and equality that our countries were founded upon.
Does the U.S. send similar messages elsewhere?

Given what sulphur-laden messages we receive from Venezuela, this is pretty mild. The first rule of diplomacy is recipricocity.
I don't think this is really about diplomacy. It's more about the fact that the Obama administration constantly seeks to convince parochially minded domestic constituencies that it means business with our "enemies."
