Chile gets involved

Chile is now getting more involved in the Ecuador-Colombia-Venezuela conflict.

In comments somewhere (I don’t really want to dig back) Boz mentioned the Chileans photographed with the FARC. That is now hitting the fan in Chile, as a debate has begun about whether they were receiving training or just visiting (is just visiting somehow OK?) The government is putting police at the border on alert.

President Bachelet has criticized Colombia for violating Ecuador’s sovereignty, but when asked about Hugo Chávez also said that countries should not meddle in the affairs of others, and that any initiative intended to increase polarization is not the “correct way.”

It strikes me, actually, that since the Chilean Communist Party admitted the Chileans were there, it is also verifying the accuracy of the photos taken from a FARC laptop.

Go get 'em, Greg! Knock those Chilean Communist Youth dead. I mean, boy oh boy, this is absolutely fascinating. What would we do without a professor who impresses upon us the importance of what a few members of the Communist Youth wing of a party that gets, like, 2% of the vote in Chile was doing with Raul Reyes? We ought to consider nominating Greg as the father of the second coming of the Enlightenment.

The Chilean woman said she downloaded the photos into the FARC computer because her camera memory was full and the FARC burned a CD for her. The fact that CD exists would help prove the laptops were actually Reyes'.

Interestingly, she was with Reyes in Ecuador only 72 hours before he was killed. That's a surprisingly short time frame.

Also, the Chileans who were there specifically mention three laptops, whereas a lot of media kept referring to one.

I was pretty sure there were three. Today's Washington Post refers to "three laptops and two hard drives" so I'm not sure.

Colombian cops keep saying there are three laptops. They also said that they'd share the laptops with the OAS so that the OAS could examine them themselves, but I don't know what's happened on that story since the Chief of Polic said that they'd do that.

Finally, there was brief (one time that I saw it) story that the GOE found a laptop that the Colombians apparently missed. Again, no further info on this. Assuming this story be true, I would the expect the GOE to come out with any downloaded info which might refute or at least confuse/blur info provided by the GOC.

Not sure why the GOE would do that. Assuming the laptops are legit, there's been nothing in them that is damaging to Correa. Correa readily acknowledges having been in talks with the FARC (which the Colombians already knew), so what do the Ecuadorians have to worry about? Correa has so thoroughly kicked Uribe's ass on the diplomatic front that it's not gonna matter.

In the Correa/Chávez press conference, Correa literally broke out in laughter at the mere mention of Uribe's threat to try Chavez in the ICC. You see, in the civilized world, the spectacle of Uribe the grim reaper trying someone else in the ICC is a sick joke.

Anyone who believes that the Colombian government actually fabricated evidence in this episode is either brain dead, or in serious denial. Face it...leftist conspiracy theories are limited in their value to occasional entertainment value and nothing more. The FARC are murderers, and no goverment needs to fabricate any evidence to demonstrate that fact. To even suggest that the laptops are not authentic is laughable.

I bet Justin's dorm facilities don't look like "the civilized world" on Friday nights during the school year.

This also probably stems from Chávez inserting himself into Bolivia's dispute with Chile regarding the territory lost to Chile after the War of the Pacific. Chávez sided with Bolivia saying that he "dreamed of swimming on a Bolivian beach."

True, in addition to the comments he made about the Chilean senate (after it criticized him). So in part her comments might have a domestic audience in mind.

Ivan Rios, another member of the FARC secretariat has been killed by the Colombian military. Damn, Uribe on a roll!

Maybe Justin is right about calling Uribe the "grim reaper."

Justin, another moment of silence?

Hmmm, let's see. Which is more civilized? The bong or the chainsaw?

Well, at least they didn't violate international law this time around.

Ha! Really? Of course, the bong in your case is real. The Uribe photo is something some Marxist asshole ally of yours made up.

Anyway, the "Friday nights" thing was meant more in the realm of all the 18 year olds puking in the hallways and bangin' the headboards outside your door while you are in your jammies reading some Eduardo Galeano drivel.

I wonder what your master Chavez will say about this! Good news for you, however, he probably now has an opening in his faves for sure!

I'm a little too old for the dorms, big boy. Eduardo Galeano would probably be worth my while, though.
