Venezuela poll
I just discovered that Blogger does not archive polls. Apparently there are free poll services to use, and I may try to figure that out in the future for fun. But I am taking down the old poll, so will just write the results here, and we can see in late April how everyone fared.
Will the U.S. Add Venezuela to the "State Sponsor of Terrorism" List?
No: 33%
Yes: 47%
Yes, but next year: 19%
n= 21

I voted no, but that was before all the excitement last week.
The Miami Herald is reporting that this is closer to possible today.
It's still a bad idea.
Make it very difficult for Venezuela to sell oil to the U.S.? See what the U.S. public thinks after that type of disruption.
Bush should release the SPR to make up the difference. Let's see how Chavez gets by without the empire supplying his blood money.
The SPR contains about enough oil to replace Venezuela's oil for a year to 18 months. It's a cute strategy if Chavez folds instantly. However, if Chavez survives the shock of those first few months without US oil money, then the US gets trapped in a bad strategy without any real way out (not to mention we'll use up a significant portion of our SPR, which could be needed in a real crisis).
I really dont know how Chavez could survive for more than a couple months without the cash he needs to payoff his fellow criminals.
I voted no as well, assuming no overt involvement of VZ/Chavez with the FARC. 'Course, that was before last week as well....
