Latin America and the ICC (again)

The Senate has voted to eliminate the punishment of military aid denial for countries that ratify the ICC but don’t provide waivers for U.S. citizens. It would still allow cuts of USAID money. General Brantz Craddock, the head of SouthCom, has led a campaign to end the cuts. The House has not agreed to eliminate it entirely, so we’ll see what happens when negotiations take place next week.

Punishing countries in this manner is ham handed and ultimately counter-productive. Our Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, still supports the policy.
